Like, I had walking pneumonia at least twice in high school, have managed to be ridiculously sick on several major holidays throughout my life, and once caught a cold in 90 degree weather. I’m still not sure how that last one happened. But consequently, I’ve decided that I am likely down to a single white blood cell, lovingly known as Theodore. In order to have an effective supply chain management a company would beat competitors to market with functional and ground-breaking products. Globalization, outsourcing and information technology have enabled many organizations, such as Dell and Hewlett Packard, to successfully operate solid collaborative supply networks in which each specialized business partner focuses on only a few key strategic activities. Organizations increasingly find that they must rely on effective supply chains, or networks, to compete in the global market and networked economy. Alpargatas are a sort of shoe that is worn by rural workers. Alpargatas was founded in 1883 by Juan Echegarary and Robert Fraser that symbolized the European heritage that is part of Argentina?s culture. In 1907, the company opened a subsidiary in San Pablo, Brazil. The company expanded as Argentina continued to grow with more immigrants and economic expansion. Alpargatas served as a textile operation that found uses for its scraps to produce floor clothes, grid clothes, and flannel. It had textile mills for the fabrication of canvas and a cotton mill that supplied the raw material for the production system. Like Africa, India and the Middle East, Latin America has a long history of meddling by foreign powers, all of them European and North American. These interventions have profoundly shaped the character and history of the region. Here are some of the more important ones: The Conquest: The conquest of the Americas is probably the greatest act of foreign intervention in history. Between 1492 and 1550 or so when most native dominions were brought under foreign control, millions died, entire peoples and cultures were wiped out, and the wealth gained in the New World propelled Spain and Portugal into golden ages. Within 100 years of Columbus First Voyage, most of the New World was under the heel of these two European powers. The Age of Piracy: With Spain and Portugal flaunting their newfound wealth in Europe, other countries wanted to get in on the action. In particular, the English, French and Dutch all tried to capture valuable Spanish colonies and loot for themselves. During times of war, pirates were given official license to attack foreign ships and rob them: these men were called privateers. The Age of Piracy left profound marks in the Caribbean and coastal ports all over the New World. The Monroe Doctrine : In 1823, American President James Monroe issued the Monroe Doctrine, which basically was a warning to Europe to stay out of the western hemisphere. Although the Monroe Doctrine did, in fact, keep Europe at bay, it also opened the doors for American intervention in the business of its smaller neighbors. French Intervention in Mexico: After the disastrous â€Å"Reform War† of 1857 to 1861, Mexico could not afford to pay off its foreign debts. France, Britain and Spain all sent forces to collect, but some frantic negotiating resulted in the British and Spanish recalling their troops. The French, however, stayed, and captured Mexico City. The famous Battle of Puebla, remembered on May 5, took place at this time. The French found a nobleman, Maximilian of Austria, and made him Emperor of Mexico in 1863. In 1867, Mexican forces loyal to President Benito Jurez re-took the city and executed Maximilian. The Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine: Due in part to the French intervention and also to a German incursion into Venezuela in 1901-1902, US President Theodore Roosevelt took the Monroe doctrine one step further. Basically, he reiterated the warning to European powers to keep out, but also said that the United States would be responsible for all of Latin America. This often resulted in the United States sending troops to countries that could not afford to pay their debts, such as Cuba, Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua, all of which were at least partially occupied by the US between 1906 and 1934. Halting the Spread of Communism: When fear of spreading communism gripped the United States after World War II, it would often intervene in Latin America in favor of conservative dictators. One famous example took place in Guatemala in 1954, when the CIA ousted leftist president Jacobo Arbenz from power for threatening to nationalize some lands held by the United Fruit Company, which was owned by Americans. The CIA would later attempt to assassinate Cuban communist leader Fidel Castro in addition to mounting the infamous Bay of Pigs invasion. There are many more examples, too numerous to list here. The US and Haiti: The USA and Haiti have a complicated relationship dating back to the time both were colonies of England and France respectively. Haiti has always been a troubled nation, vulnerable to manipulation by the powerful country not far to the north. From 1915 to 1934 the USA occupied Haiti, fearing political unrest. The United States has sent forces to Haiti as recently as 2004 with the purpose of stabilizing the volatile nation after a contested election. Lately, the relationship has improved, with the USA sending humanitarian aid to Haiti after the destructive 2010 earthquake. Foreign Intervention in Latin America Today: Times have changed, but foreign powers are still very active in meddling in the affairs of Latin America. France still owns a colony (French Guyana) on mainland South America and the United States and Britain still control islands in the Caribbean. The United States has sent forces to Haiti as recently as 2004 with the purpose of stabilizing the volatile nation after a contested election. Many people believed that the CIA was actively trying to undermine the government of Hugo Chvez in Venezuela: Chvez himself certainly thought so. Latin Americans resent being bullied by foreign powers: it is their defiance of the United States that has made folk heroes out of Chvez and Castro. Unless Latin America gains considerable economic, political and military might, however, things do not look to change much in the short term.

Dee, Connie and Sammy are an example of how the notion of pride is shown in various ways and how as their pride reaches its peak, they fall. Dee shows her pride in her self centered personality that causes her to lose her appreciation for her mother and her sister Maggie, and causes her to abandon her heritage and become distant. Connie, in â€Å"Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been? † shows pride in her overconfidence that leads her to act impetuously causing her to lose her personal safety. Sammy, in â€Å"A&P† shows pride by simply quitting his job in response to what he views to be an unacceptable behavior by his boss, and wishes to grab the attention of girls that merely recognize him. The Preoccupation with pride that these characters have causes them to eventually fall. Dee’s egocentrism leads her to become unappreciative to both her family and her heritage. Dee reveals her true personality when she responds to her mother for the reason she wants to take the quilts instead of her sister in the quotation, â€Å"Hang them, she said. As if that was the only thing you could do with quilts†(Walker 375). This quotation shows moment when Mama’s attitude changes in the story. Before it, she was submissive to Dee and had much respect for her. After, she realizes that Dee will never be grateful to her or even able to understand that there are other people in this world besides herself. Dee’s pride is shown in her eagerness to take the quilts that are originally for Maggie; She ignores her sister’s feelings and her mother’s will. She fakes love for her mother’s old things because they are expensive, not because she enjoys the history and is proud of her heritage. The pride causes Dee to lose her appreciation for her mother, sister, and heritage and at the same time she loses her mother appreciation for her. Maybe if she did not respond to her mother’s question by simply hanging the quilts, her mother would have given them to her. However, her selfish desires of getting whatever she wants leads her to loose her mother’s respect. Connie’s self assertiveness ended by her loosing her safety. Connie shows her pride in her personal thought as the narrative states, â€Å" actually Connie thought that her mother preferred her to June because she was prettier†(Oates 53). Connie’s overconfidence of her self comes from her beauty. She finds her self to be a beautiful young girl who is a point of interest among the boys. As a result of herself, she builds up her personality with that overconfidence, while at the same time building her pride up. As soon as her pride is at its maximum level, she acts in an impetuous way ignoring the outcomes of her actions, this can be seen through the quotation, â€Å"It was a car she didn’t know†¦ she whispered â€Å"Christ, Christ,† wondering how bad she looked†¦ she went into the kitchen and approached the door slowly, then hung out the screen door, her bare toes curling down off the step†(Oates 54). This quotation shows Connie’s pride and how her pride causes her to fall. Connie’s reaction when she finds a stranger in her driveway by wondering how she looks reveals that her pride takes value over her safety, while the normal thoughts that any body can think about when he finds a stranger entering his driveway is thinking about his safety, Connie is only concerned with her beauty. Connie’s overconfidence pushes her to approach the door which is the beginning of her fall. Connie lives in her small safe life of teenagers, not taking into consideration the outside wild life that she approaches blindly. At the time she decided to open the door, Connie the teenager and the young adult is blended together. Connie is in a stage of maturation— She decides to approach the door for the stranger which is the teenager side of her mind and at the same time she approaches it slowly which is the young adult side of her character. Her action to hang out the screen door is the time when Connie is completely mature and considered a young adult. At this moment, Connie cannot go back to the level of maturity she had when she was a teenager. Connie starts the fall. Connie’s overconfidence causes her to portray an imaginary photo of how the world is and she acts from this perspective which ultimately ends her losing her self security. Sammy resigning his job shows pride, but renders him inferior in society. Sammy shows pride in the way he reacts to his boss, Mr. Lengel. The way he treats the girls is shown in the quotation, â€Å"The girls who’d blame them, are in a hurry to get out, so I say â€Å"I quit† to Lengel quick enough for them to hear, hoping they’ll stop and watch me, their unsuspected hero†(Updike 87). The quotation shows the girl’s reaction to Mr. Lengel’s words. They want to go out of the store as quick as they can. It also shows Sammy’s rashness in thoughts and making decisions by stating that he quits in a quick manner. Quitting to Sammy is a way that he shows pride and is a way to grab the girls attention. He is showing that he supports them, and he thinks that they will consider him their hero. Sammy also shows hesitation that his action may attract the girls attention. He hopes that by quitting, his proud actions will grab their attention. However, he comes out of the store and he does not find any body waiting for him. As the narrator states, â€Å"I look around for the girls, but they’re gone†¦ I felt how hard the world was going to be to me hereafter†(Updike 88). At this moment, Sammy realizes his fall. This fall can be viewed in two perspectives. The first perspective is a superficial one because he thought that the girls would be impressed and would be waiting for him which they didn’t. The second is when he realized that he quit his only job and that world will be hard to him, which is something that is hard to handle.

Si han solicitado una tarjeta de residencia para ti y mientras esperas quieres viajar como turista a Estados Unidos debes saber que en casi todos los casos la solicitud serà ¡ negada. Debido a que los tiempos de demora hasta que se obtiene la tarjeta de residencia son muy largos, pudiendo llegar en varias categorà ­as a producirse esperas de aà ±os, e incluso dà ©cadas, es totalmente comprensible que quieras visitar en Estados Unidos al pariente que solicità ³ la greencard para ti. A pesar de ello, la inmensa mayorà ­a de las veces la solicitud de una visa de turista (tambià ©n conocida como de placer o paseo en algunos paà ­ses) va a ser negada en estos casos.  ¿Cuà ¡l es la razà ³n por la que se rechaza esta peticià ³n de visa? El motivo se encuentra en los requisitos de la visa de turista. Uno de ellos es que la persona que la solicita no tenga intencià ³n de emigrar a los Estados Unidos. Y esto no se cumple en estos casos, ya que al presentar la planilla (forma) I-130 para iniciar el proceso de peticià ³n de tarjeta de residencia para un familiar ya se està ¡ indicando a las autoridades migratorias que la persona para la que se solicita esa greencard tiene intencià ³n de emigrar. A consecuencia de ello, los oficiales consulares deniegan la inmensa mayorà ­a de esas peticiones porque considera que no reà ºnen el requisito para ser elegible. Estos son otras causas por las que se puede negar por el mismo motivo.  ¿Cuà ¡les son los efectos? En primer lugar, que la persona que solicità ³ la visa no podrà ¡ viajar a Estados Unidos sino hasta que llegue su momento para aprobar su visa de inmigrantes. Y en ese momento, si finalmente todo sale bien y se aprueba, entrarà ¡ a USA y en ese momento se convertirà ¡ en residente permanente.En segundo lugar, que el dinero abonado en concepto de cuota de la visa  al solicitar la visa de turista se pierde. No hay forma de conseguir un reintegro.  ¿En quà © casos podrà ­a haber alguna esperanza de que concedieran la visa? Quizà ¡ cuando al mismo tiempo se den lugar estas dos condiciones: El solicitante pueda demostrar documentalmente lazos muy fuertes a su paà ­s de residencia y que no se va a quedar a vivir en EEUU si le conceden la visa.Que el solicitante està © en una categorà ­a de beneficiario de peticià ³n de residencia permanente que tenga plazos larguà ­simos de espera, como por ejemplo hermanos de ciudadanos americanos. A tener en cuenta Lo dicho anteriormente es lo que està ¡ sucediendo en la mayorà ­a de los casos. Eso no quiere decir que sea asà ­ en el cien por cien de los mismos. Pero casi.
